Direct Ph.D.

The objective of the Direct Doctorate (M.A. + Ph.D.) study track in the Department of Maritime Civilizations is to provide excellent students with an opportunity to get involved in scientific research.
Admission Requirements
The Direct Doctoral Studies program in the Department of Maritime Civilizations is intended for students holding a B.A. degree cum laude or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Israel or abroad.
A student who wishes to enroll as a Direct Ph.D. candidate must complete the following requirements in order to be considered for admission to the Ph.D. program:
- Possess a B.A. or equivalent degree and have attained a weighted grade of at least 90 (“excellent”)
- Submit a declaration of intent with regard to the topic of the proposed research .
- Since the official language of teaching in University of Haifa is Hebrew, mastery of Hebrew language is required. Overseas students are required to undertake a Hebrew knowledge exam.

Students in the Direct Doctorate track are expected to complete their coursework within two years, and to submit the Research Proposal at the beginning of the fourth semester of studies.
Upon the approval of the Research Proposal, students are expected to conduct research and to submit a Ph.D. dissertation within two years.
The approval of the Research Proposal and successful completion of coursework and theoretical studies grants the students in the Direct Doctorate track an M.A. degree .
The overall duration of Direct Doctorate studies in the Department of Maritime Civilizations is four years.
