Yael Shai
Inspector in the National Marine Environmental Protection Division of the Israeli
Ministry of Environmental Protection
M.A. Maritime Civilizations Department
“For the past 13 years, I have served as an inspector in the National Marine Environmental Protection Division of the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection. I have a B.Sc. in biotechnology engineering, and in 2019 I received an M.A. from the thesis track of the Department of Maritime Civilizations. I did my thesis research on the effects of marine crude oil pollution on the microbial population in the southeastern Mediterranean Sea, in collaboration with Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research.”
“My M.A. studies greatly expanded my education in areas that I value in the marine sciences, which are also important for my work in the Ministry of Environmental Protection. I was also very pleasantly surprised to find so much interest in the areas of marine archaeology and history, which I first learned about in my studies at the department. In addition to classroom and lab studies, the significant added value of the degree curriculum includes the educational outings, research cruises, and scientific dives for the purposes of archaeological excavations or research. As a result, every educational activity I participated in with the exceptional group of my fellow students became a real experience.”
