Welcome to The Department of Conservation of Material Cultural Heritage

The Department of Conservation of Material Cultural Heritage was established upon the foundation of the Department of Archaeology’s Cultural Heritage Conservation Program, which has trained numerous practitioners in the field. The department’s strategic strength lies in its synergy with allied departments within the School of Archaeology and Maritime Civilizations, encompassing both terrestrial and maritime heritage preservation, with further integration planned with the Department of Archaeological Sciences. Offering a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree with specialized tracks in heritage conservation and heritage management, the curriculum addresses contemporary challenges, including urban development pressures, environmental impacts on cultural sites, archaeological museology, site management, and public access strategies. Students undergo practical field and laboratory training, as well as hands-on experience in collection management and curation. Graduates are prepared for professional roles in archaeological conservation, museum curations, cultural resource management, and the administration of heritage sites. The department offers degree programs in both Hebrew and English tracks.
