פרופ' בבית הספר לארכיאולוגיה ותרבויות ימיות באונ' חיפה, אקולוג ימי ,דרור אנג'ל, מבקש להילחם בשינויי האקלים על ידי הוספת פסולת עץ לספינות טרופות עתיקות בקרקעית הים השחור, שם תנאים דלי חמצן משמרים אותן.על ידי שקיעת ביומסה יבשתית, כגון ייעור ופסולת חקלאית, פחמן יכול להינעל במשך מאות שנים. שיטה זו פשוטה יותר ובעלת סיכוי נמוך יותר לשבש מערכות אקולוגיות ימיות בהשוואה לגידול אצות או פיטופלנקטון ללכידת פחמן. גישות אלה מייצגות רק חלק מהפאזל הגדול יותר במאבק בשינויי האקלים.
